How Do You Feel About Holiday Gatherings This Year?

Ready or not, the holidays are coming and 39% of Americans say this is their busiest holiday season yet, according to new research. Despite things feeling hectic, people seem to be slowing down a little compared to the holidays last year. On average, they’ll be going to three gatherings this season, down from five last year.

The survey of 2-thousand U.S. adults looks at their winter social calendars and finds:

  • People feel good about the slower pace of this year’s holiday season, with only 36% wishing they were attending more gatherings this year, compared to 62% who wished the same last year.
  • Overall, two in three respondents say they’re excited about the upcoming holidays.
  • Just over a third (35%) feel like they’ve been waiting a long time for the holidays this year.
  • The most popular holiday events this year include Thanksgiving dinner (79%), Christmas dinner (73%) and Christmas parties (45%), while fewer people will be going to New Year’s parties (36%) and Friendsgiving dinners (17%).
  • The ones respondents are most excited to attend are Thanksgiving dinner (49%) and Christmas dinner (38%), and the one they’d most like to skip is New Year’s Eve parties.
  • Fewer people are planning to host guests during the holidays than last year (38% this year compared to 57% last year), but those who are hosting are more enthusiastic to have guests over (60% versus 53% last year).
