We’re all busy, but it turns out, it’s taking quite a toll on our social lives. While 39% of Americans haven’t made a new friend in over a year, a similar number (38%) haven’t gone to a party in at least six months, a new survey finds. So it’s not really surprising that 37% feel “stuck in a rut” socially.
The survey of 2-thousand U.S. adults who’ve traveled with friends also reveals:
- It’s been at least a year since many have been to a concert with a friend (59%) or been on vacation with them (44%).
- While 58% describe their current friendships as “fun” and “ever-changing,” a quarter say their social lives feel repetitive (26%).
- Some of those friends have been a part of their lives for a while, with 81% saying their friendships are going strong after at least 10 years and the average respondent has two best friends in their life.
- But making time to hang out is challenging, as they’ve only spent one-on-one time with their BFFs seven times in the last year.
- When they do get to hang out, they usually get drinks (25%), go shopping (21%), or binge-watch shows or movies (20%).
- Half of those polled say they always or often feel like they didn’t spend enough time with their besties and 76% wish they got to spend more quality time together.
- For 22%, a getaway with their friends is exactly what they need, more than a trip with their partner or family.
- Half of respondents say getting a friends’ trip on the books would ease their worries (53%) and 38% say they chat about taking one in the group chat at least once a month.
- Overall, the ideal vacation with friends would last about a week long and include dinners out (58%) and beach days (48%)
- The best trips to take with friends are road trips (45%), beach trips (43%), to a festival/event (26%), a new city (24%) or an adventure (22%).
