Richard Simmons was laid to rest in his classic workout clothes, according to his brother. Lenny Simmons shared the detail during a eulogy at a celebration of life at St. Louis Cathedral in New Orleans on Saturday. "I want to let you all in on a little secret: Richard is wearing his tank top and shorts underneath his clothes just in case God's final plan for him is to get all the angels and saints in Heaven into shape," Lenny said.
Lenny spoke about their happy childhood, noting that Richard once considered becoming a Catholic priest to help people. Instead, he found his calling as a charming waiter and then transitioned into fitness, saying, "At the age of 26, Richard Simmons finally knew what God wanted him to do."
Richard Simmons became a fitness icon in the 1980s with his popular "Sweatin' to the Oldies" workout videos. He passed away on July 13 at the age of 76.
