Breaking Down The Morgan Wallen "SNL" Incident

Who knew that simply walking off the stage would cause such a ruckus? But it's Morgan Wallen we're talking about, so here we are. Wallen's history with "Saturday Night Live" is a little rocky; first scheduled to appear in October 2020 (and then forced to postpone because he broke covid protocols), Morgan would eventually take the stage on "SNL" for the first time in December 2020. This past Saturday was his second appearance and it was...eventful. Let's break down everything that's happened since early Sunday morning:

As we told you, the singer walked off-stage while the cast was saying their traditional farewells to the crowd and viewers at home. His reps would quickly clarify that it was a misunderstanding, and that Morgan had exited the stage the same way during rehearsals all week long. After his abrupt departure, Morgan posted a pic on his Instagram Stories of his private jet with the caption "Get me to God's Country," which many saw as a diss towards New York City, and perhaps a diss towards "SNL" as well.

The aftermath:

  • SNL writer Josh Patten shared an Instagram Story the next morning of a Krispy Kreme truck alongside a caption that read, “Get me to God’s country,” a direct riff on Morgan's post. People started thinking Patten was dragging Wallen, but Patten was ready for them, uploading a screenshot of his 2023 Apple Music Replay which featured four Wallen songs in the top five spots on the playlist, proving he's actually a fan of the singer.
  • Some that were at the broadcast seemed to think Morgan's walk-off was a direct response to a snub from "SNL" chief Lorne Michaels. One fan that was present said that guest host Mikey Madison hugged Michaels toward the end of the show, but when Wallen approached him next, Michaels turned away, which could have led to the singer walking off.
  • As for the network, sources at NBC tell "TMZ" that there's no bad blood between them and Wallen, and he's welcome back anytime.
  • And finally, if just seeing Morgan Wallen perform wasn't enough reason for his fans to be excited, there were some Easter eggs during his performance of "Just In Case." As he sang, a TV screen on the stage occasionally flashed out lines of text that appeared to be clues to the track list for his upcoming "I'm The Problem" album. Interestingly, this information does not align at all with last week's "track list leak" that Internet sleuths claim to have discovered.
