North Carolina nonprofit Support Our Troops recently received a large donation of Girl Scout cookies from the Piedmont Girl Scout Council. The donation included around 48-thousand boxes, delivered by truck to Ayden, where volunteers helped sort them. The cookies were purchased by people who donated or chose to buy some specifically for troops, including those serving overseas.
Army chaplain Scott Griffin praised the donation, saying it helps create opportunities to support and care for soldiers and their families. He calls the gesture of sending cookies to troops, “a little way to say we care for you.”
Barbara Whitehead from Support Our Troops shares that the organization has been operating for 21 years. She says they get “paid in hugs,” adding that seeing the smiles in photos and messages from service members makes their efforts worthwhile. Support Our Troops is still seeking donations of essential items like toothpaste, body wash, and funds for postage. The group encourages people to visit their Facebook page to learn how they can help.
