Mobile Supermarket Delivers Fresh Groceries To Food Deserts

A new mobile grocery store launched earlier this week in Ensley, Alabama, bringing fresh produce and affordable groceries directly to the community. The initiative is led by Antoinette Vines, founder and president of Mercy Deliverance Ministries, which has been distributing free food boxes to Ensley residents for years. Vines explains that the grocery bus is part of a broader effort to serve families in underserved areas.

Inside the grocery bus, customers can grab a basket and shop for essentials like pasta, seasonings, breakfast items, condiments, and fresh produce. Donations help keep prices low, with items like canned goods available for around 80 cents. The entire community can now benefit from prices that are at or just above wholesale cost.

The launch of the mobile grocery service is the end result of a four-year effort. Vines stresses the importance of the initiative, especially with the holiday season coming up, and with a lot of local families struggling to make ends meet. She hopes that the bus will be a symbol of a brighter future for residents, reassuring them that better days are ahead.
