Fort Worth, Texas, retiree Lyn Story, who’s known for offering free rides to neighbors in need, recently received a new vehicle from a Philadelphia car dealer. Story first gained attention earlier this year when "CBS Mornings" reported on her commitment to helping others despite her own financial hardships. For six months, she’d continued driving locals like April Goodwin, who needed rides to cancer treatment, and Kevin Horrigan, who relied on her to get to work, despite the wear on her aging car and increasing gas prices.
Inspired by Story's dedication, David Kelleher, owner of David Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram, decided to surprise her with a new car. He coordinated with CBS to bring her to a Fort Worth dealership to get her car fixed, but when she arrived, Kelleher revealed his real intention: he’d arranged for her to receive a brand-new 2024 Jeep Compass SUV, with all costs covered, including title, tag, extended warranty, and even insurance for life, making sure Story could continue serving her community without worry.
Overwhelmed by the gesture, Story expressed deep gratitude for the gift. She shared her plans to keep helping people by driving them to appointments and work and to continue looking for people in need on the neighborhood app Nextdoor. Kelleher said he was moved by the opportunity to help someone so dedicated to serving others, noting that his contribution would keep her safe and on the road, helping her community.
