A Third Of Americans Say Their Partner Acts Like A Baby When Sick

No one’s at their best when they’re under the weather and no one knows that better than the people who live with them. A new survey looks at how illness affects us and, in turn, those around us, and if your significant other doesn’t handle having a cold very well, you’re not alone.

According to the poll of 2-thousand U.S. adults:

  • A third of couples who live together say their partner turns into a baby when they’re sick.
  • They describe their partner as stubborn (25%) and dramatic (23%) when sick, and 22% refuse to even admit they’re sick.
  • Cold and flu season really takes a toll on a lot of us, as respondents admit they only feel 100% fit and healthy 16 days of the average winter month.
  • People tend to experience “sickness suspicion” for two days before an illness takes them down.
  • The biggest sign of sickness on the horizon? A lack of energy (58%), followed by common symptoms like coughing (42%), sore throat (40%) and congestion (38%).
  • Some less common signs people are getting sick include mixing up what day of the week it is (29%), getting in arguments with loved ones (21%) and putting things in unusual places (14%), like mistakenly setting the keys in the fridge.
  • While we may not like to admit we’re sick, we don’t always suffer in silence, as the average sick person mentions it twice a day until they feel better.
  • In general, respondents are out of commission for an average of three days when they catch a cold.

Extreme Things Americans Have Done When They Were Sick

  • Can’t remember their own name
  • Put on two different high heels, same color, in a rush
  • Forget to pick up kid from school
  • Drove with pizza on roof of car
  • Go to work on a day off
