How Long Is Too Long To Leave Holiday Decorations Up

Do you still have your Christmas tree up and full of decorations? You’re definitely not alone, as many of us haven’t gotten around to the annual taking down of the lights, displays and decor we put up for the holiday season. And according to new research, a lot of Americans are totally fine with all of it staying up year-round.

A survey of 2-thousand U.S. adults finds that nearly half of them are okay with keeping the decorations up all year.

  • While 45% of Americans are on board with it, the other 55% think all good things should come to an end and that includes the tinsel, bells and wreaths put up for the holidays.
  • They feel there’s a festive expiration date for decorations and it’s coming up soon.
  • While some folks keep theirs up until after the Twelve Days of Christmas (January 5th) or until Epiphany (January 6th), it turns out, people are willing to embrace the holidays just a little longer this season.
  • Respondents were asked for a precise date when decorations should come down, and based on the average of more than a thousand answers, the “take down date” is January 16th.
  • Millennials are the age group most likely to support the idea of a year-round celebration, at least in terms of decorations (48%), while baby boomers are the least likely (43%).
  • Men and women are nearly even when it comes to leaving holiday decor up all year, with women slightly more in favor of it at 46%, compared to 44% of fellas.
