The Trump administration released approximately 63-thousand pages of documents related to the 1963 assassination of President John F. Kennedy yesterday as promised. This release is part of an ongoing effort to promote transparency regarding historical events. The newly available files primarily pertain to the Warren Commission's 1964 investigation, which concluded that Lee Harvey Oswald acted alone in the assassination. Despite previous releases, many Americans continue to believe in alternative theories surrounding the event. The first release at 7 pm Eastern time consisted of 32-thousand pages, and a second batch was released at 10:30 pm Eastern time with an additional 31,400 pages.
The documents in the first release include details about Oswald's attempts to obtain a visa from the Soviet Embassy and the CIA's monitoring of KGB agent Valeriy Kostikov. It will most likely take weeks before the files have been sifted through to reveal any new information. The files have been uploaded to the National Archives website as part of the President John F. Kennedy Assassination Records Collection and are available for the public to view by clicking here.
